Increasingly, automotive electronics are being used in vehicles to provide advanced driver assistance, experience and safety assurance. Despite higher outdoor temperature and humidity requirements (e.g., environmental variable requirements), modern-thinking system functionality is making automotive electronics a broad market for the rapid expansion of semiconductors across all segments, passive components and connectivity devices.

Today, the body control module of an automobile manages a variety of different in-vehicle networks, which is also where the centralized multi-domain controller resides. In the quest for lighter bodies, smarter control systems, and reliable operation in harsh environments, components used in automotive applications must be certified or predefined to ensure that malfunctions or failures are within bearing limits or in compliance with regulations. So unlike other applications, automotive components must undergo additional warranty testing and liability measurements.
